Event description

After decades of planning, design and construction, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) opened to the public in 1972. Join the Northern California Chapter of DOCOMOMO US on a tour on Saturday, June 4, to learn about the history, Mid-Century Modern design, and construction techniques of the system.

The tour will visit several BART stations designed by prominent local Modern architects including Ernest Born, SOM, and Gardner Dailey. While riding between stations, information on additional system components will be presented, including graphics, industrial design and public artwork.

Gather in front of Glen Park Bart Station at 9:45am on Saturday, June 4th. The tour will start promptly at 10am and last approximately 3 hours, including stops in San Francisco. The tour will officially end at Embarcadero Station. The ticket price of $12 will include all BART fare during the tour.
